Managing Your Dental Emergency Until You Get to Our Office
Our emergency dentists recommend keeping these tips in mind:
Do not touch any exposed roots or nerves. Hold your tooth by the crown and use water to rinse away any dirt. If possible, reposition the tooth in its socket and hold it in place with your fingers or by gently biting down. Alternatively, you can place the tooth in your mouth next to your cheek, or in milk.
A deep break in the structure of the tooth can expose sensitive inner tissues, leaving you vulnerable to dental infection. Gently rinse your mouth and apply an ice pack to reduce swelling. Additionally, avoid eating overly hot, cold, crunchy, or sticky foods until you can visit us for emergency dental care.
Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate pain, and some home remedies — such as saltwater or hydrogen peroxide rinses — can offer mild toothache relief. However, if your pain persists for more than a day or two or is getting worse rapidly, give us a call to receive emergency dental care.
